Dear Parents:
The back-to-school season is always an emotional time for all parents.
It heralds a new year that sees our children embark, in some cases for the first time, on
a voyage of discovery, learning and development. School helps children grow,
and we understandably cherish high hopes for them in this regard.
Young people's eduational success is a concern I share with you, and on that will
constantly guide my decisions. Education is a priority of the Québec government,
and this will be reflected in the fulfillment of our numerous commitments.
We have already begun implementing measures that will contribute to the full realization
of students' potential. Such measures include homework help, increased teaching time at
the elementary level and greater student support. Hand in hand with these steps are our
endeavours to prepare the education reform at the secondary level and help schools
achieve greater autonomy.
As you know, your children's success in school also hinges on your commitment,
because you are their primary educators. Your participation and the interest you
show in their studies have a decisive influence. For this reason, I encourage you
to get involved in your children's school, which you should also think of as your school.
You can help it forge an identity all its own, one taht reflects the unique attributes of your community.
I wish you all a happy school year, one dedicated to our children's success and to helping them make
their dreams come true.
